Day 2: Activity 3: I have a dream

Today I have completed the last activity for Day 2. This activity was to consider the problem that Black men and women had back in the 1950s. Down below will be what I thought about the problem.

At the time there was a rule that on busses, there were labels of skin race. Rosa wanted to fight for what she believed so she sat where she wasn't allowed to. So when the bus driver saw that Rosa wasn't in the correct seat he demanded Rosa Parks to get off the bus. She refused to get off so the bus driver so Rosa Parks got arrested for  four days.

  1. Talofa lava Florence,

Weather is looking a little brim today! What have you been up to this week? I think I have mentioned it before but I am working at the ASB Classic tennis tournament this week and I actually got to see Serena Williams in person!

Well done for participating in this years' SLJ programme, "Changemakers: People who have changed the world" - Although it is a little short, I appreciate your summarised version of Rosa Parks’ story. I just think it is so sad and unfair that so many people were affected by those very racist and exclusive laws but it is amazing people like Rosa Parks who give our world hope. Rosa inspired many other people of colour to stand up for their rights and for themselves. Rosa Parks is actually one of my idols because of how strong and brave she is and unfortunately when these kinds of incidents have happened to me, I remember how she stood up for herself and it helps me stand up for myself. Do you have an idol that you look up to or someone who inspires you to be brave?

I look forward to seeing you finish the SLJ programme ...just one activity left to do! Keep at it Florence :)

    Malo,
    Mani

  2. Hello Florence! This is a really good summary about what happened with Rosa. I think she is an amazing role model, and someone to look up to. She did what was right in my opinion. Her story is still very alive, even though she has left us now. Do you think she would've known her story would continue being such an inspiration? Keep up the amazing work, it's been a long journey but you've almost made it!

  3. Hi Florence,
I liked how you said that there were seat labels for skin colour. Interestingly enough, Rosa Parks didn't sit in the white labelled area of the bus, the white section was full so she was ordered to give her seat up to a white passenger. She refused and was then arrested. Would you stand up for yourself like she did if the same thing happened to you?
