Taitua Arboretum Challenges

This week name, and I enjoyed completing another home blogging challenge. The place for this challenge of “Getting to know Auckland” was Taitua Arboretum, which is a garden/park dedicated to trees, and etc. In this presentation we put together, we have included 3 interesting facts about Taitua Arboretum, the time it would take to travel by car/bike, and a few of the trees we might see if we went to Taitua Arboretum. It was quite difficult to find particular information like the specific trees, but we were able to find out that they are well taken care of by the Park Rangers. This has been known as a great place to take your family or pets, and go on some of the walks!

MOTAT Challenges

This week for a home learning activity challenge Victoria, Sakina, Haylee, Taheesha and I created a collaborative DLO about MOTAT. The first activity consisted of where MOTAT is on a map with the address. The second activity was to add 5 - 10 facts about MOTAT. For the bonus activity we made a biography of the founder of MOTAT. It was really exciting learning about MOTAT because it may be a place some consider going!

Catapult making

This week for our STEAM challenge we got into groups for the activity we were going to do, in my group were Florence, Fui, Chavda and Taheesha. For this activity we constructed a newspaper mangonel catapult which was one type of catapult we could chose from.. We were given STEAM baskets which have materials that we use for our challenge. In our STEAM basket we had newspaper, tape, rubber bands, scissors, and a little cup with a lid. We first planned out everything and how we were going to make the mangonel and the roles we were given. We made progress and our catapult worked and at the end every group got to test their catapults by trying to hit the target. After everyone got a turn at testing we all sat down and talked about how we can improve our catapult. The strength wasn't as great but our catapult was still good and could function properly.   

Tsunami Information, Facts, instructions

This week for reading we worked collaboratively to find information about Tsunami's. In my group was Miiana, Sandra, Matthew and Nevaeh. First we started off with writing down the things we already knew about Tsunami's, Questions that we wanted to know about Tsunami's and things we learnt about tsunami's. Then we made a D.L.O about basic information on Tsunami's. The most interesting thing I found out about Tsunami's was that it is a Japanese word for "Harbour Wave".

Collaborative Challenge

This week for Maths we had to work out a maths problem, these maths problems were provided on the LS2 Maths Site. We had to solve 2 maths problems, But I finished this one first. This task was easy to do because all I had to do was use my addition skills. We also had another Maths Problem it was about a class that going Camping. For this activity we had to use our multiplication skills to solve the question. We were given a clue, the clue was to read the problem carefully. We then re read the problem and found out why we kept getting the answer wrong. It was because we didn't read the problem carefully.

Role Model/Hero

As an excitement for inquiry we are learning about leadership. Leadership in our school is a very strong topic, because we are great at working towards our leadership skills. For this activity we were to find the definitions for a role model and a hero. Each slide included a photo of a role model/hero. If you were wondering as you went pass you could see that the role model slide had a photo of all of your school leaders for this year. We contributed together as we listed a lot of reasons for each of these definitions.

Idioms | Reading

L.I to find idioms from a book or an article from the internet.

This week for reading we focused on Idioms. Our task was to find idioms in a book or a site. We had to work collaboratively. We had to work in a group of 3. In my group was Victoria and Andrew. We had to find Idioms from the 2 sites we were provided with and an Idiom from books. We had a point system. The Point system was used to count up the amount of idioms we did. Our group got 20 points. We had to sort our points by giving it 1 or 2 points. 1 point meant that we found an idiom from a book or an article. 2 points meant that we got the idiom from the 2 sites that were provided for us. I really enjoyed using my researching skills to find idioms on the internet.
