SLJ Week 1 Activity 9

Today I have completed another SLJ activity. This activity was to create your own haiku poem. Haiku poems consists of 3 sentences. First sentence containing 5 syllables, second sentence containing 7, and the last sentence containing 5 syllables. I explored some other haiku poems from online and got inspiration. I made my haiku poem about palm trees. I found the photo in the background too small for the google draw, so I copied and pasted it, and it covered the whole thing. For the step it up activity, I created a google presentation that has templates of where to write the sentences etc. I created another 3 haiku poems to share. I really enjoyed this activity as i was able to use my imagination to create a cool poem.

My Name is Soane and I am a wealthy
student from Glenbrae School. Your Presentation
on this great topic is very amusing to read.
I can tell this took a lot of imagination to create
and I was wondering, If I may "What is your favorite season".

Other than that, fantastic job on
making this nice established presentation :)

    1. Hi Soane!
Thank you for commenting on my blog, I really appreciate it. I'm glad that you liked my presentation. My favourite season is Spring, because the weather will always be a surprise, and sometimes its half hot and half cold so I find that the perfect tempreture for me. What about you, whats your favorite season?

  2. Good Morning Florence

This is a very beautiful presentation. The choice of images used fits well with the style of Haiku. While Haiku isn't my favourite form of poetry, you have made an outstanding effort here. You have clearly understood the structure of Haiku.Combined with your choice of photos this this makes for a lovely presentation.

In looking through your previous work on the SLJ you are going just graet. Excellent and thoughtful postings. I hope you are enjoying these activities.

I look forward to following your progress.

Ben here again from the SLJ commenting team.

These haiku are great. How did you find the format of 5-7-5? Have you ever tried to write poetry before?

What I love in your haiku is the emphasis on nature and the different seasons and elements. The environment is such a reliable source of inspiration. We could spend forever I imagine, putting words to all the wonders that the natural world creates.

Keep up the good work Florence, you’re an inspiration!

    Mā te wā,

    Benjamin

    1. Hi Benjamin!
Thank you for commenting on my blog, I really appriciate it! I found the format using the videos on the SLJ blog, and the template on the DLO's. I remember creating different forms of poetry a few years ago. Thank you again for the comment!
