Pourquoi Animation

L.I To create pourquoi story using our creativity.

This week for writing we have been creating pourquoi stories. A pourquoi story is a narrative explaining why something is the way it is. We chose our own topic to write about and used the writing framework, when we finished writing in our framework we got started on our animation. For our animation we had to tell the story using drawings. Our story was about why flamingos rest standing on one leg, it was about how flamingo's used their popularity as a way to show off. I worked with Victoria to get this pourquoi story completed. We enjoyed making thi sas it was fun to use our imagination.

Explanation

This week we have created an explanation telling others why it's important to use our PBS care values. We created a screencastify of us reading the explanation. We spoke about every care value and explained why it was good to use them. We also used parts from peoples paragraphs that we created on monday. I worked with Sakshi, Victoria, and Jayden.

Writing sample

Why is it important to make wise choices?

Are you aware of what's been happening recently? Covid-19 is taking a really big impact on our lives and has changed 2020. Coronavirus is a deadly virus that has spread around a majority of the world and a vaccine is yet to be found.

If you have any symptoms of Covid-19 then please stay home or get tested. It doesn’t hurt anybody to take time out of your day to get swabbed. It takes an average of 5 - 6 days for symptoms to show up after being infected. If you get tested positive for Covid-19 you are sent to a managed isolation home to stay in for an average of 2 weeks. You get tested twice, one at the start of your 2 weeks, and one before you leave.

People have been escaping managed isolation. Due to their actions they have been fined and sent right back. If you escape isolation, you're putting other people's lives in danger and you're putting them at risk. As a result places the escapers have visited were closed off and cleaned thoroughly to keep others safe. This is the perfect example of where people have made stupid decisions that have resulted in them dealing with the consequence.

Please stay safe and follow the restrictions when you're out in public. Get tested if you are showing signs of covid-19 symptoms. Remember covid-19 is an easily spread virus and you need to take it seriously.

This week for writing we have been going over explanations. We have been revising it so that we are reminded of how to write an explanation. We did this so that we are reminded for the term 4 writing test. I created this explanation about corona virus and how making wise choices relates to it. We also went over DRAFT, so that we made sure our writing made sense. I enjoyed doing this as I was able to revise on writing explanations.

10-5-7-10-10 Writing

L.I: To use 5-7-10 to write creatively.

“JUST A FEW MORE STEPS!” I try my best to control my breathing as I get higher and higher above the sky. I look over my shoulder to see the amazing view of the sunrise, “It's Beautiful” I say. The colors in the sky blending together is immaculate. I remember that I still have a long way to climb, but I tell myself that this is all going to be worth it in the end, as it also counts as a workout, I guess.

(10 minutes later) “I'm just a few steps away from the top, I can do this” I chant, I felt breath taken by the amount of time it took to climb the mountain.. (3 minutes later) “I MADE IT” I screamed, I lay on the top of the mountain with relief that I made it.

Today we did another 5-7-10 writing. We changed the title to "10-5-7-10-10". We did this because we wanted to have some time to plan out what we were going to write. My story is about a girl who climbed a mountain early in the morning in time to see the sunrise.

5-7-10 Wrtiting

L.I: To use 5-7-10 to write creatively.

Lightning never strikes twice, does it?
That was the question that occupied their frightened minds as they crouched, huddling together, next the pile of dusty sacks in the base of the windmill.

Lightning Disaster:

Lightning never strikes twice, does it? We asked that question because we were afraid and scared that if the lightning struck again, it would be x10 worse than the first one. Sam and I (Cat) were the only ones that were inside of the windmill. A windmill was not the safest place for us to shelter in during a storm because the turbines are tall and lightning strikes the tallest thing around. We started to question if we should’ve visited this windmill or not. We made stupid decisions like not check the weather before leaving, and not bringing supplies to keep us warm. We were feeling really scared and frightened but we stayed calm. We had seen a thunderstorm before because we acted mature and didn't act stupid, but this storm was so enormous that we tried to keep our cool. The storm started to ease off so we started preparing to make a run for it to our campsite. THE END.

To start off Term 3 we started with writing. This week for writing we have taken a look at a picture with a little story starter, we used the information from the description to create a story, we also got some questions to help us write it. My story consist of the characters Sam & Cat. It is about them visiting a windmill that was near their camp site, a storm headed towards them, and they questioned if they had made the right choice. They didn't check the weather so they got a storm unexpectedly.

Ancestor Poem

L.I To write a poem to describe your ancestors using the literary devices of alliteration, onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile, hyperbole and rhyme.
For writing we have been writing a poem about our ancestors/culture. We have been learning how to use literary devices to write a powerful poem. I used a thesaurus to change my simple words to powerful ones. I enjoyed writing this poem as I was able to look deeper in to my culture and express who I am.

Current Events

LI: To explore the international current events.

This week, we explored the international currents events and some of the different types of current events. Newspaper editors make choices everyday, about what to share with the world. On a google maps, Sakina, Haylee and I worked collaboratively to plot locations about these current event stories. We really enjoyed finding out about these stories, which was very interesting.

Steps

L.I To practice using Suffixes.

Today we did 15 minutes of Steps. I got a range of different activities to do around suffixes. I am practicing the suffix "able".  For these tasks you would get a range of different activities to achieve, when you complete an activity you would get rather a Bronze, Silver or Gold metal for how well you completed your activity.

Explanation: Plastic Pollution

Why is plastic pollution a problem for our coastlines?

Did you know that over 1,000,000 sea animals lose their lives each year due to the huge amounts of plastic waste in our oceans and coastlines?! Mistaking it for food, the animals will eat the plastic...but as it takes years to break down, it stays trapped in their body and they will eventually die. From our actions, they are forced to suffer and we create a bigger problem for ourselves in the future...How would you feel to be swimming in plastic?

Plastic makes up 90% of the pollution on the ocean’s surface; a large majority of that ends up inside our sea animals or wrapped around their neck, and intoxicating the waters. The plastic we leave lying on pathways and throwing on the street ends up in drains and leads to the sea. About 97 percent of New Zealanders have admission to plastic facilities, but why aren’t we doing anything about it?

Plastic is biodegradable but it takes around 1,000 years to break down based on the type of plastic it is. Plastic NZ says that every New Zealander takes in about 31kgs of plastic packaging a year, but only around 5.8kgs get recycled. “Love Your Coast” is one of the many projects that is taking action by bringing together groups of people to help clean the shores of New Zealand. This project decides to clean the shores of New Zealand as they want the next generation to be cleaner.

We should take action now for a better and healthier future!

Blurb

This week for writing we have been looking at explanations. We created an explanation in groups of 4. Victoria, Sakina and Haylee were in my group. The explanation was about Plastic pollution and the organisation called Love your coast. Love your coast is an organization that helps pick up rubbish around New Zealand. They have loads of people helping with this action, because they want he next generation to b cleaner.

Romeo and Juliet stick act

This week for writing we have been learning about Shakespeare. LS2 have been creating DLO's about the play Romeo and Juliet. The DLO we were told to create was a Animation, but we decided to switch it up and create a popsical stick act. We were in a group of 3, in my group was Victoria and Nidhi and we all gave each other roles for each character. I was Friar Lawrence, Victoria was Romeo and Nidhi was Juliet. The process of creating this act was to first create the characters digitally, also create the background for the characters to be in front of. We would also change the way the characters are positioned, meaning the Juliet could be sitting down or kneeling. Then we would get the characters and background printed and then cut them out. Next we use the class iPad to record the scene and last we record a voice over to use over the video. I really enjoyed this activity because it really helped me to understand the story of Romeo and Juliet.

Perspective of shoes

This week for writing we had created a personification/perspective writing. We did this by getting into partners and and facing back to back. We had a shared Google doc that had both my partner and I. We tried to create a paragraph of the perspective of Shoes. The challenge was to not talk with each other during this activity, whilst doing this activity we tried to use the same ideas to write this journey of a Shoe. We also tried to the use the 5 senses of a human to create the journey of old or new pairs of shoes.

Explanation | Respect, Empathy, Tolerance

Asthma

How would you feel if you had an asthma attack and your friends just started laughing? Some people take asthma as a joke or they mock you and start laughing at you. If someone can’t run as fast as you can, don’t judge them, because you don't know what they have experienced. Don't go to them saying that you don't like something about them, just keep it to yourself.

Asthma is a serious condition and isn’t expected to be taken as a joke. Your actions can hurt someone on the inside but maybe not the outside. Show empathy and understand the fact that they cannot control their breathing. If you see an asthmatic using their inhaler don’t give them the evils and start laugh. How would you like it if you fall down and scrape your knee? And everyone just started laughing at you? You wouldn’t feel so happy would you.

Treat someone the same way you want to be treated back. If someone is having an asthma attack don't just stand their laughing take them to the nearest sick bay or somewhere where someone could help them. If you go over an asthmatics house and you don’t like that there are inhalers everywhere don’t tell them that you don’t like it, just keep it to yourself and put up with it.

If you don’t like what someone does, don’t judge them for it. You wouldn’t like it if you were mocked by them. Put up with it because no one asked to hear what you think. Understand what they have been through and how their life style works. Tolerate what they do and respect them. You aren’t their guardians so therefore you don’t need to complain about something that doesn’t involve you. Don’t Judge a book by its cover.

Perspectives

Today I finished my DLO on perspectives of what people think about Countdown not selling Energy drinks to kids under 16. I have also included my opinion and what I think. I don't really mind Countdown not selling energy drinks because I have never drunk one and it doesn't effect me in any way. Also in this DLO I added the perspective of an under 16 kid hating the new rule and the perspective of someone who agrees with the rule. I enjoyed doing this task because I got to tell my opinion of this new rule.

Explanation: Should NZ ban plastic straws?

Have you used a plastic straw before? - Of course you have. And have you ever wondered how plastic straws can biodegrade? Well it takes 200 years! Plastic straws entered our world in 1870 as drinking tubes, and have still been around for the last 200 years. But now people are thinking of banning them. But why?

Banning straws will mean that our sea creatures will be able to live a longer life. Our sea animals and birds have been choking and suffocating on plastic straws and it needs to stop NOW! Plastic Straws have been a bad cause to our land because it causes pollution in our oceans. Would you like it if you were swimming in plastic straws? I wouldn’t think so.

It has been noticed that plastic straws aren’t getting recycled. And is somehow getting in our oceans and is also causing landfill. Did you know that there are chemicals in some plastic straws that could possibly get into your drink.

Banning straws will stop some pollution because not all of pollution around the world is caused by plastic straws. Did you know that in the last 10 years 65,000 plastic straws were collected from NZ beaches? Its crazy how so many people just deliberately drop their straws because they can’t bother walking to a recycling bin.

Plastic straws are harming animals and causing pollution. What if you went to the beach and all you saw were plastic straws and lifeless sea turtle? It’s almost 2020 and plastic straws are still a thing? We need to ban them!

Persuasive Speeches

L.I To write a speech that persuades others to think the way you do.

Audience eye Contact - I memorised most of my speech and I was able to look at my audience.

Expression - I was a bit nervous so I didn't make much expression.

Hook in your audience with persuasive language features - I tried to use as much language features

Confidence - I shared my speech with the whole class, I was very nervous to say my speech but at the same time I was really excited because I was able to share my speech and maybe convince some people to think the way I think.

Wages need to go UP!

Have you been told “No, that costs too much”. If you have, it could be because your parents or guardians are not getting paid enough. My name is Florence and I will be talking about how wages affect a person's debt. Wages have stayed the same for a long time but the cost of living has gone up which makes an adults life harder because they have to pay the bills.

Would you like it if you worked from 9 in the morning until 5 at night, and got paid a small amount of money, not even enough money to pay your rent. They say hard work pays off but when the wages don’t cover the basic things it doesn’t look like that is true.

If prices go up and wages stay the same, then people won't have enough money to provide for their families with healthy food and a warm house.

That’s not fair because everyone in NZ has the right to live a decent life. Can you believe that 16% of kids in NZ live in poverty. Poverty is the state of being extremely poor. I think that's sad.

It could take weeks for someone to save enough money to be able to buy just one item. It can take weeks because some adults don’t get paid a lot of money each week. Often people turn to loan places that charge high interest rates and this gets them deeper and deeper into debt. Debt is very hard to get out of.

Wages need to go up or life will just get harder for people in the future. Just remember that your parents or guardians can’t always buy everything you want and sometimes I imagine that hurts them as much as you think it hurts you. Thank you

Respect for the sea

Imagine going fishing and you catch plastic instead of fish. Well that is what I see in the future of fishing. We can still stop this by not not littering so we can keep our animals healthy. Imagine a world with healthy fish and clear seas, but then imagine a world with dirty water and sick fish. We still have time to change our thinking.

In fishing always remember to wear a life jacket, When you wear a life jacket it helps you increase your float if your boat ever throws you off or tips over. Bring a fishing ruler to help you measure the size of fish that you want. If you get a fish that is smaller than the correct size, then you must gently put it back. Also remember to pick up a fish with a wet towel, so that you don’t harm the fish in anyway. If you catch a bigger fish that is not the correct size, then you must gently put it back because it is still a breeding fish.

Know anything about plastic Pollution? Well, If we stop throwing our plastic away and recycle it, we could have more clearer waters and healthier fish. A fact about fishing is pick the size of fish that you can eat. The exact amount of fish that you can take home with you is around 7 fish per person. If you take a wrong sized fish, your boat could get taken away from you.

To help save our fish and seas, we need to have respect for the sea. If we have respect for the sea we could have more healthy fish and cleaner waters. We also need to think about fish for the future. We need to know that if we take the right sized fishes home we can leave the bigger fishes to breed with more new baby fishes.

Just remember that if we think carefully about our sea and our fishes, you could have a plate full of fish and chips in front of you. We need to stop and just think about the way we are using our fish for.
