In this design I have created, I used a flower that is most likely a pacifican flower and it is in the colours of the samoan flag because I am Samoan. As you can see there are not stars in the blue part, I tried to add my own twist to this drawing so I used a diamond I drew.
For this activity please create your own tapa cloth design. You can draw your design on paper or using a drawing app such as Google Draw.
On your blog, post an image (photo or screenshot) or your tapa design and describe what each part of your picture represents (means).
Hi
ReplyDeleteA lovely creation. I like the way you have given good reasoning behind your choices for your flag.
Hi Florence - Tapa cloth (or simply tapa) is a barkcloth made in the islands of the Pacific Ocean, primarily in Tonga, Samoa and Fiji, but as far afield as Niue, Cook Islands, Futuna, Solomon Islands, Java, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Hawaii (where it is called kapa).
ReplyDeleteHello Florence!,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tapa you have designed. I have enjoyed reading about what each design represents on your tapa. I like the idea of how you used a pacifican flower, but used the colours of the Samoan flag. That is very creative! I also like how you used your own twist of using diamonds instead of stars. Would you design a tapa again?
Nice Work!
Hi Florence! I love your tapa design. And I really like the idea behind it - how everything is combined into one thing. It's a great drawing too! Where did your inspiration come from or was this completely your idea? Great job!

Hi Florence,
ReplyDeleteI liked how you created a flower for your tapa cloth because it has the same colours as the Samoan flag. I found it interesting that you added some diamonds for your own twist. What do the diamonds mean?
