Day 3: Activity 2: Printing Prosthetics

I watched a video explaining different things about 3D Printed Prosthetics. I have written one thing I learnt from the video and one thing that surprised me in the video.

What was one thing I learned from this video?

Modern prosthetics can cost tens of thousans of dollars and kids outgrow them.

What was one thing that surprised me in this video?

At the start of the video the kid looks like a robot with a lego looking hand.

For this activity, we would like you to learn more about 3D printed prosthetics (artificial body parts, like hands or arms). Please watch this video about 3D printed prosthetics (artificial body parts, like hands or arms).

On your blog, tell your readers:

  1. Great post again Florence - 3D printers are awesome in what they can do and how they help others. Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!

  2. Hi Florence! I think it's amazing what these volunteers are doing, and I love their designs for the prosthetics! - They look super cool and exciting. Would you get a prosthetic like that if you were missing a hand? I think it's brave for those kids, and really in-lightning when you see them smile - because they are doing things their disability was holding them back from. Great work!

  3. Ahiahi Mārie Florence,

Tino pai for sharing the information about what you learned and what surprised you from watching the video about 3-D printers in relation to printing prosthetics. I watched the video earlier this week and I learned so many new things, I was shocked that 3-D printers could make so many different things, they are so advanced!

Did you know very much about 3-D printing or prosthetics before you did this activity today?

    Ngā Mihi,
    Kueni :)

  4. Hi Florence,
I found it interesting that although the prosthetic limbs cost tens of thousands of dollars, yet children can outgrow them. I also found it interesting that 3D printers can make prosthetic arms and legs. Would you want a 3D printed limb if you lost one?
