This week for the summer learning journey I completed Day 5, activity 1. This is what I had to do for the activity on your blog, tell us what you think about this rule and why you think it! The rule is that if you get caught over fishing you would get paid a fine. The fine is up to 100,00 dollars. Down below is the finished activity.
I think that it is very unfair to have to get paid a fine for 100,00. Like what if a person that doesn't know about that rule goes and does fishing and has someone give them a fine, the person that catches the fishing person will think that it was just an excuse and still pay the fine. If you were to be caught over fishing, at least give warnings to not do it again. The fine should be under 200 dollars, because not a lot of people have 100,00 dollars. A lot of people go fishing to put food on their families tables. Some people can't afford to buy food, so they do it old school. They go out looking for food. A common thing people do is FISHING. If you don't have a lot of money and you had to pay a fine that cost 100,000 dollars it would be hard to earn money to pay it.
Hey there Florence, it's Billy here again from the Summer Learning Journey team. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on whether or not the fine for overfishing is appropriate.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem like a money doesn't it. Perhaps it will stop people from overfishing though. You raise a lot of good points in your argument. I think if you were providing food for your family then you wouldn't be overfishing.
Overfishing is more about people who are pulling in hundreds and hundreds of fish at a time. Unfortunately, there are some people who do this very often and it leads to a massive shortage in the ocean.
We need to think about ensuring younger generations can fish in their lifetimes as well.
Have you ever been fishing?
Thanks, Billy.
Hi Florence,
ReplyDeleteGreat blog post from you. I did this activity too. I had the same statement as you too. I thought that it wasn't fair for many reasons. Thanks for sharing your reasons with others. My father and brother always go fishing? Have you ever been to fishing with anyone?
Hello Florence,
ReplyDeleteI think you are right it isn't right to have a fine a person for over fishing. I think that law should change immediately. Oerall you are doing such a great job in the SLJ. Keep it up!
