SLJ Week 1 Activity 3

Today I completed this activity about creating your own insect out of leaves and plants from outside. The insect that I created was a butterfly. My butterfly had a pink body, green wings and sticks for antenna's. I also decided to add a ground that the butterfly flies over, and the tan colored leaves is the ground. I really enjoyed creating this insect as I was able to use my imagination.

Well done and thank you for sharing your awesome insect art.

I really like that your butterfly has so many beautiful fresh plants, and that you have created an imaginative scene by having it fly over the brown leaves - this is an awesome example of contrasting colours! Not only is this great butterfly art, but also great photography! What was your favourite part about creating your butterfly? Was it the collecting of materials, or putting it all together?

I’m so pleased to see that you are participating in so many Summer Learning Journey blog activities; keep it up and I can’t wait to see what you make next!

    1. Hi Elle!
Thank you for commenting on my blog. Its great to see that you liked my insect art. I agree that my butterfly had some interesting colors. My favorite part about creating my butterfly would probably be the finding the right plants/materials/colors to create it. Have you ever made insect art?

    2. Mōrena Florence, you are most welcome and it is wonderful to hear back from you!

That is so cool to see that your favourite part was finding all of the right colours and plant material; it sounds like you have great creative vision.

That is a good question. I have made insect art before - when I was in intermediate school! Our challenge was a little bit different though, we had to create our sculpture out of fruits and vegetables instead of plants from the garden. I remember making a ladybug out of half of a red apple, with black olives as the spots! I stuck it all together with toothpicks. It was a very fun challenge!

If you had the opportunity to make an insect out of food, what would want to make the most, and what would you use?

Great job again for your awesome butterfly and well done for being so active in the summer learning journey!

      Ngā mihi,
      Elle (SLJ)

  3. Malo e lelei Florence,

Woah! The design you made looks amazing! The thing I liked the most is the way you have clicked the picture. It looks like a picture clicked by a professional photographer! When the beautiful design and the high quality picture settings are combined they make the outcome stand out and look more effective. After seeing your artwork the first thing I think of is "wow". I also liked that you have added a background which will make the design look more attractive. Same as you, I have completed this task and made a butterfly. Do you know some interesting facts about your insect?

Keep up the great work! I am looking forward for your reply.

    1. Hi Sakshi!
Thank you for commenting on my blog, I really appreciate it. I’m glad that you thought that the way the picture had been taking was how someone famous would take it. This picture was taken by Mrs Anderson and had been sent to me. Im thankful that you liked the way I created my design and the way I created a background for it. I had commented on your blog before noticing that you also made a butterfly. A fact I know about butterflies is that there is a specific species of butterflies that have what it looks like an owl to keep themselves camouflaged from animals. Do you know anymore facts?
