SLJ Week 2 Activity 10
On Monday we started the second week of the Summer Learning journey. Today's task was about Xylophones. The Xylophone is a musical instrument that consist of wooden bars that are different sizes and aare hit with metal mallets. The different sizes allow the xylophone to have different tones. In our case our task was to create our own xylophone using glass cups and paper. The glass cups task was to fill up each cup with the differnet amount of water. Using a pencil to hit each cup, the cups would make a different sound. Weither the cup had more water it had a low pitch and if it had less water the pitch was much higher. I created this task and recorded myself hitting each cup. For the paper task you had to have 5 A4 papers and roll them up and cut them to different lengths. By hitting each one it would also make different pitches due to capacity and space. I really enjoyed creating this Blog post as I was able to find out something new about music.

SLJ Week 1 Activity 6
Today I have completed another SLJ activity. This activity was about re-arranging Maori words to create a sentence. We created a copy of a google slide and we had to fill it out. Some slides you only had 2 options and on others you had more than 3 options to choose from. The last slide is about you making the sentence up and making it so that is replies to "What are you doing today?". We also got the choice to create a screencastify for bonus points, and getting someone from our family to help us. I will upload the screencastify when someone form my family isn't busy.
SLJ Week 1 Activity 5
Today I have completed another SLJ activity. Optical art consist of geometric shapes and patterns, and is often in colored black and white, but I wanted to switch it up and create mine in a different color (Pink). This activity was about creating an optical illusion rather drawing it on google drawings, or drawing it by hand on paper. I chose to draw mine on google drawings. How I drew it: I drew my optical illusions by first tracing the main shape of the whole thing, then putting in the lines in the middle, which made the illusion look the way it does. I also had to draw a triangle in the middle and it was all pink with lines and it looked weird. Choose that decision changed the whole drawing. On the side I tried to add what the optical illusion is suppose to do. I enjoyed creating this activity as I got to create something I had never created before.

SLJ Week 1 Activity 4
Today I have completed another summer learning journey activity. This activity started off with finding out what the word "Tanerore" meant. (Meaning from Maori Dictionary) Tanerore means "heat haze - shimmering in the air near the ground of a hot day". We then started with the next part of this activity - creating our own Kowhaiwhai pattern. For my design we had a template that we could use to help with our designs. We were allowed to choose how the design was rotated, shaped etc. So I used the koru's and rotated them so that they would be in a shape of a heart, I got the inspiration from one of my previous kowhaiwhai patterns. I also went with the theme of summer. The koru's represent growth, strength and peace, and the hearts represent affection. I'm proud of my design and I really enjoyed creating it.

This activity was about scavenging for items in our class for materials that we'll need for the upcoming Summer Learning Journey activities. We really enjoyed this as we were able to find all the materials. I worked with Matheus in Room 5 to get this activity completed.
Are you participating in the summer learning journey?

He was our client that we needed to help. We all created designs that were rather based around christmas or any events coming us for other cultured people. We created 2+ designs for the christmas tree in the office and they looked amazing. We all hung our own design on the tree for everyone to see, we also took photos of ourselves next to the tree to post on her (blog).

Pourquoi Animation
L.I To create pourquoi story using our creativity.
This week for writing we have been creating pourquoi stories. A pourquoi story is a narrative explaining why something is the way it is. We chose our own topic to write about and used the writing framework, when we finished writing in our framework we got started on our animation. For our animation we had to tell the story using drawings. Our story was about why flamingos rest standing on one leg, it was about how flamingo's used their popularity as a way to show off. I worked with Victoria to get this pourquoi story completed. We enjoyed making thi sas it was fun to use our imagination.

Gold attitude: SWIS Worker
In June I created a DLO with Sakshi about what a SWIS worker is. In our DLO we included what is SWIS, What the job of a SWIS worker is, What the importance of a SWIS worker is, and where is the SWIS for help. At our school we also have a SWIS worker. We really enjoyed creating this as we did this whilst online and not being able to see each other.
Gold Attitude: PAY IT FORWARD
Gold Attitude: Stan Walker
In July I created this DLO about stan walker. Explaining who he was, Why I chose him and some information about him. I chose stan walker because in 2017 he was diagnosed with stomach cancer that had been in his family for years. I think that he is a very brave and positive man due to all the deaths that have happened in his family due to the cancer. I enjoyed doing this as I was able to look into what happened when he was younger and what he did as a young singer.

To experiment with colours
Today LS2 and Rm 5 have been working together to create coloured in drawings. Each LS2 student got paired up with a Rm 5 person to help. I was paired up with Shaun and I helped him with his first drawing and showed him how to use the colors, how to undo, how to show the original picture and much more. We used an app that showed us a big variety of drawings that we could color in. The picture shown above is the drawing that I chose to do, I followed the original and made it look exact and Shaun chose to do the big ben drawing. My drawing is called Moon Masque, by Lois Mailou Jones. I used the brightest colors that were on the color scale so that it would pop. I used the colors Purple, Pink and light green. I really enjoyed doing this as I was able to use my creativity to complete these drawings.

This week for reading we did current events. For this we created a google map and found articles that would fit the topic such as (Relevance, Magnitude, Reference to someone famous or important). There were 12 topics in total that we had to find articles for, I worked with Ellenora, Vayan, and Victoria. For each topic we wrote down what the article is about and what topic it is under.
Provocation: Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?
L.I: To identify and consider the two perspectives of this provocation to help me form an opinion.
A provocation is an action or speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Today in groups for reading, Haylee, Sakina, Victoria and I thought about both sides of the provocation, ‘Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?’. We used our smart searching skill and information to help us form an opinion that we could justify with evidence and provide strong evidence for each opinion. On November 19th, masks are going to be required to use on public transport (buses, trains) My opinion is undecided because I think masks should be mandatory for certain reasons, but no for other reasons.

Writing sample
Are you aware of what's been happening recently? Covid-19 is taking a really big impact on our lives and has changed 2020. Coronavirus is a deadly virus that has spread around a majority of the world and a vaccine is yet to be found.
If you have any symptoms of Covid-19 then please stay home or get tested. It doesn’t hurt anybody to take time out of your day to get swabbed. It takes an average of 5 - 6 days for symptoms to show up after being infected. If you get tested positive for Covid-19 you are sent to a managed isolation home to stay in for an average of 2 weeks. You get tested twice, one at the start of your 2 weeks, and one before you leave.
People have been escaping managed isolation. Due to their actions they have been fined and sent right back. If you escape isolation, you're putting other people's lives in danger and you're putting them at risk. As a result places the escapers have visited were closed off and cleaned thoroughly to keep others safe. This is the perfect example of where people have made stupid decisions that have resulted in them dealing with the consequence.
Please stay safe and follow the restrictions when you're out in public. Get tested if you are showing signs of covid-19 symptoms. Remember covid-19 is an easily spread virus and you need to take it seriously.
This week for writing we have been going over explanations. We have been revising it so that we are reminded of how to write an explanation. We did this so that we are reminded for the term 4 writing test. I created this explanation about corona virus and how making wise choices relates to it. We also went over DRAFT, so that we made sure our writing made sense. I enjoyed doing this as I was able to revise on writing explanations.

What would I do as prime minister?
If I was prime minister I would help small businesses get a head start on their job. Maybe help put up poster, advertise their shop etc.
I would do this because.. Small businesses are created so that these people can receive money by selling things to other people. I think doing this will help a lot of businesses as they can provide for their families and this is a good sign of paying it forward. I also think this would be a good way to gain the attention of other small businesses in need.

Food Tech w/ Mrs. Heka
Ingredients:
Flour 1/3 of a cup
Baking Soda 1 half of a table spoon
Canola Oil 1 tablespoon
2 Eggs
Milk 1/4 of a cup
Can of Corn
Seasonings:
Salad dresser
Sweet Chili sauce
Equipment:
Pan
2 bowls
Wooden spoon
Measuring Cup
Measuring spoons
Whisker
Spatula
We started off with measuring the Flour and Baking soda and put it all in one bowl. Then get the eggs and crack them into another bowl, with those two in 2 separate bowls, put the flour and baking soda in the egg. Mix all that up with the whisker until all the small clumps of flour were dissolved and gone. When finished pour the can of corn into the mixture, and mix. After that get a pan and put your oil on it, let the oil sit. Then get the mixture and put it on the pan as if it were to be pancakes. One person cooks the corn fritters while the other person gets the salad and places it in their container with Salad dresser on it. When the first few corn fritters are cooked put them on top of the salad. Repeat for the rest of the mixture. When all is cooked pour some sweet chili sauce on top and DONE! The year 8's enjoyed making this as it was very delicious.
