Goldfish In the Bowl | Illusion

L.I To explore how optical illusions work.

This week, Mr. Johnston came to LS2 and taught us about optical illusions. An optical illusion is something that tricks your eyes, making an object look different. Mr. Johnston gave us an optical illusion activity, where we drew a fish and a fish bowl onto two different pieces of paper, then we created a DLO explaining what optical what optical illusions are, how it works and the explanation of the activity that Mr. Johnston gave us. I really enjoyed doing this activity because I was about to learn about optical illusions.

What is Matariki?

Careers: Photography

L.I To explore a career that interest you.

I took the careers Quest quiz to help me find a career that interest me, at the end the three options I chose were "Photography, Artist, and Sign Maker". This DLO shows the job that I thought was most best out of the three options I has. This DLO shows what a Photographer is, The chances of me getting a job as a photographer, the amount of time for training that I need, the subjects that I will need to study for photography and the amount of money I would earn. The photos that are in the corner of this DLO are photos taken by me, meaning I do not need to attribute them. I enjoyed this activity as I got to see what career I could study when I'm in college.

Tech @ Tamaki College

L.I to code your M-bot to move in a star shape.

This week at tech we have been trying to get our M-bot to be able to go in a star shape. We started with going outside to draw stars to be able to identify the sharp corners that the robot needed to make. Once we did that we went inside to try out the codes on our M-Bots and to see if we could get our M-bots to go int he shape we wanted it to go in. Once we did that we were able to get a marker and have the M-bot moving to see if it was going in a good direction. I enjoyed tech this week because I was able to go outside and identify some corners that I had to get the M-bot to do.

Problem solving using Long Division

L.I: To be able to explain the steps of long division.
This week for Maths we've learnt about a new strategy called long division. It's used to solve division questions by using a certain process that breaks down each step of the strategy which makes it easier to understand and learn how to use. After practicing using it in a few maths problems, we were confident enough to try using two different websites that challenged our skill. Victoria and I collaborated on this DLO about using long division with our example of 1872 divided by 18. I personally think it's still difficult to use when I'm trying remember the order that things are written but believe it's still a very efficient strategy for solving division. Click the links below to watch the video in our DLO or visit one of the learning websites we used!

What is a Periscope?

This week we have been learning about Light and Sound. For this particular activity, we learnt about periscopes. Mr. Johnston made his own Periscope for LS2 to play with. A periscope is a tube that holds mirrors at the bottom and the top. You look through the bottom hole and you can see out above. Tanisha and I created this DLO about periscopes, we added 5 interesting facts, the definition of a periscope, and some words that relate to Periscopes.
