Today was our first day back to school from our second distance learning lockdown. We started our day with creating a screencastify that explains how to navigate your way to a juniors class site. First we wrote down on a piece of paper of what we would explain to the parents to help them get to the school and class site. We then wrote our script and practiced what we were going to say. Sakina, Haylee and I have all worked together to get this screencastify completed.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teacher is Mrs Anderson.

Natural Disasters
Last week was our last week of Distance learning. For inquiry/reading our activity was to create a DLO explaining what natural disaster you chose, and what causes that natural disaster. Also we write down an example of an earthquake that has happened in New Zealand. Also apart of the activity was to create a clear poster for people who might not have experienced an earthquake before.
The natural disaster that I chose was an earthquake. Did you know that earthquakes are caused when a rock from underground breaks, and the release of energy causes waves that shake the ground? The example I used for this DLO was the earthquake that happened in 2011, Christchurch. I enjoyed creating this DLO as I was able to do research and find out about earthquakes.

Fair Test
L.I To experiment with virtual plants to see what variable needed to change.
Today for reading we took part in a virtual plant experiment, where we tested out different light intensity, light durations and decided which plant had grown the best. We got set the challenge to find out what fair test is and why fair test is used by scientist and to help us understand what it is. What is fair test? Fair test is where you change one variable, while it keeps the other samples the same. In the end we saw which plant had grown the best and recorded our conclusion. The DLO that we have created explains what fair test is, What the purpose of fair test is, and how fair test works. We added 2 images from the site we used, and included a video that we created. I worked with Sakina and Haylee to get this DLO completed.

Careers Pathway
Today we have been looking back at Careers. Today's lesson was to create a Careers Pathway. What is a careers pathway? A careers pathway is where you can write information on how you can get into your dream career/job. The career that I have chosen is Photography, to become a photographer you need to study Maths, English and Computer studies. There is no specific amount of years needed for training to become a photographer. Lastly Photographers earn up to $43k a year, and the chances of someone becoming a photographer is average. I really enjoyed doing this activity as I was able to find out information I will need for when I leave for college.

Volleyball Interschool
On Wednesday 5th of August, Students from Panmure Bridge school went to Barfoot & Thompsons stadium to participate in the Volleyball Interschool. We went up against many schools such as Point England, Stone Fields, Tamaki Primary, Glen Innes, St. Pius x etc. We were split into 3 groups for each year group, the Year 5/6's, Year 7/8 A, and Year 7/8 B. I was in the Year 7/8 B and our first game was against Tamaki Primary, the points were 22 - 2, My group was the one who got 2 points. We still stayed calm and kept going with all of the games. In the end Year 7/8's B won 2 games, Year 7/8's A won 5 games, and i'm not sure how many points the Year 5/6's got. I really enjoyed volleyball as I was able to stay active.

Manaiakalani Survey
This week we have been helping the juniors with a survey from Manaiakalani. We helped Rm 2, Rm 3, and Rm 4. The survey asked questions on reading, and how they felt about it etc. If some words in the questions were hard, then we made them sound easier for them to understand. I really enjoyed doing this as I got to step up as a leader to help the children.
