This week we had a Matariki celebration outside. Our whole school participated in this event. The Senior and junior Kapa haka group performed and so did the Pasifica group. We got sausage sizzles and we got 2 for each person. I was in the Pasifica group so I performed in front of everyone. I enjoyed the whole day because it was full of excitement and was really tiring. In the Pasifica group we did a cook island dance for our dance with our school uniform on.
The junior kapa haka/Boys did the haka while the girls danced with the traditional skirt and tattoo/fake. The seniors did something similar, the boys did the haka but the girls used the poi and danced with the traditional skirt and tattoo/fake. The songs that were sang was E nga iwi e,Rona and the Moon,Tenei Matoe,Matariki Macarena,Lean on me and heaps more. We would like to thank Mrs Whaia Odie and her husband for bringing in the sausage sizzle and organizing all of this. Also Thank you to Mr Johnston for helping with this event. This again was to celebrate Matariki and the six sisters.
