Gold attitude: SWIS Worker

In June I created a DLO with Sakshi about what a SWIS worker is. In our DLO we included what is SWIS, What the job of a SWIS worker is, What the importance of a SWIS worker is, and where is the SWIS for help. At our school we also have a SWIS worker. We really enjoyed creating this as we did this whilst online and not being able to see each other.

Gold Attitude: PAY IT FORWARD

In July I created a DLO showcasing me paying it forward by helping a kid in Room 3 to read. Every Thursday Room 3 comes to the library to read with LS2. Room 3 students bring their own books to read and then they read it to us. Amarley is my buddy for reading. She is really good at reading and she rarely struggles on words but, when she does struggle on words I help her pronounce it, then she quickly learns it. I really enjoy helping her read.

Gold Attitude: Stan Walker

In July I created this DLO about stan walker. Explaining who he was, Why I chose him and some information about him. I chose stan walker because in 2017 he was diagnosed with stomach cancer that had been in his family for years. I think that he is a very brave and positive man due to all the deaths that have happened in his family due to the cancer. I enjoyed doing this as I was able to look into what happened when he was younger and what he did as a young singer.

Gold Attitude: Positive Attitude video

A few months ago Sakshi and I created a video explaining what Positive attitude is. For this task we created a google slide that would b used as our back drop for the video so that the people watching wouldn't have to just see a blank screen or the same photo. In our video we explained what positive attitude is, why its important to have one, and an example of who had a positive attitude due to difficulties they have had. We chose Sophie Pasco for this activity. I really enjoyed working with Sakshi because we were able t communicate through the internet and not have to see eachother in person.

To experiment with colours

Original Painting
My changed up painting
Photo called: Moon Masque. Created by Lois Mailou Jones

Today LS2 and Rm 5 have been working together to create coloured in drawings. Each LS2 student got paired up with a Rm 5 person to help. I was paired up with Shaun and I helped him with his first drawing and showed him how to use the colors, how to undo, how to show the original picture and much more. We used an app that showed us a big variety of drawings that we could color in. The picture shown above is the drawing that I chose to do, I followed the original and made it look exact and Shaun chose to do the big ben drawing. My drawing is called Moon Masque, by Lois Mailou Jones. I used the brightest colors that were on the color scale so that it would pop. I used the colors Purple, Pink and light green. I really enjoyed doing this as I was able to use my creativity to complete these drawings.

International Current Events

 LI: To identify author's purpose.

This week for reading we have been doing another Current Events activity. For this activity we had to find articles that are outside of New Zealand (International). I found an article for each topic that is not in New Zealand. I worked by myself for this activity and got this completed. I enjoyed creating thi google map as I was able to read about different thing in different countries.

National Current Events

This week for reading we did current events. For this we created a google map and found articles that would fit the topic such as (Relevance, Magnitude, Reference to someone famous or important). There were 12 topics in total that we had to find articles for, I worked with Ellenora, Vayan, and Victoria. For each topic we wrote down what the article is about and what topic it is under.

Provocation: Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?

L.I: To identify and consider the two perspectives of this provocation to help me form an opinion.

A provocation is an action or speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Today in groups for reading, Haylee, Sakina, Victoria and I thought about both sides of the provocation, ‘Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?’. We used our smart searching skill and information to help us form an opinion that we could justify with evidence and provide strong evidence for each opinion. On November 19th, masks are going to be required to use on public transport (buses, trains) My opinion is undecided because I think masks should be mandatory for certain reasons, but no for other reasons.

Charge of the light brigade

L.I: To learn about the Charge of the Light Brigade.

This week for Reading we learnt about a narrative poem called ‘Charge of The Light Brigade’ written by Alfred Lord Tennyson of the Crimean war which takes place in the 1753 - 1856. We tried unpacking each stanza and thinking about the literary in them and then creating a collaborative DLO summarizing what we've learnt about the Crimean War and the poem itself. I worked with Victoria.

Guy Fawkes

Today LS2 buddied up with someone from Room 5 and learnt the backstory of Guy Fawkes night. We did this in advance of tomorrow being Guy Fawkes night. I partnered up with Atu and we worked together to write down important words from the story, then choose 20 words out of the list of word you had. After that we chose 6 from the 20, and then use those 6 word to create a summary of the story. We wrote this on paper first then wrote it on our device. I enjoyed doing this as I was able to learn the backstory of guy fawkes night.
