Matariki Sory

L.I: To tell the story of the matariki stars.

Today we have completed our last activity for the Matariki activities. This activity is where we explain the different legends of the Matariki stars, stories about what each stars does, for each slide has a yellow circle that circles the star that we are talking about. Next we wrote how Matariki was celebrated today, and how it was celebrated in the past. I worked with Sakina, Sakshi, and Afatia. We worked collaboratively to get this DLO done. I really enjoyed this activity because I got to learn more about each star.

Harvesting and Navigation though the sky

This week, Sakina, Afatia, Sakshi and I worked together to complete a Matariki activity. In our DLO, we explained how the sun, moon and stars are used in harvesting and navigation. An interesting fact that I found out about navigation and harvesting, is that when the stars were bright, it was a good signal of summer arriving. I really enjoyed learning about harvesting and navigation through the sky.

L.I: To compare and contrast.

Today we have completed this Venn diagram. This Venn diagram is comparing what people did for Matariki back in the day, and what they do now that is different. We also write what people do the same for Matariki. This DLO is created by Sakina, Afatia, Sakshi and I. We all worked collaboratively to get 4 facts for each section. We enjoyed this activity as we were able to find out more on Matariki.

L.I: To explain what matariki is, and why we celebrate it.

Today Sakshi, Sakina and I created this DLO. This DLO that we created shows how the tools that Maori had were used. We also explained what tools they used. We added a picture showing some things they had harvested up. I enjoyed this activity because I was able to learn about the tools that Maori used to harvest. 

Importance of Matariki

L.I: To explain what matariki is, and why we celebrate it.

Today I have completed this DLO along with Sakina & Sakshi. We all collaborated to collect the information about Matariki. We found out some facts and found out what is important about Matariki. In this DLO we added what Matariki was, What people do in the Matariki time, and of course why its important. I really enjoyed doing this activity because I was able to learn more about Matariki.

Matariki challenge

L.I: To create a drawing that shows the Matariki stars.

This week for the Te reo Challenge we have been given a challenge to create a drawing that showcases the Matariki stars. We were given the rule that we are not allowed to trace. As you can see I made my drawing and have named them. Did you know that there are many legends on the Matariki stars. Some believe that one of the stars is the mother and the other 6 are the Daughters. I really enjoyed doing this activity because I was able to use my drawing skills to create it.

Matariki Celebration

This week we had a Matariki celebration outside. Our whole school participated in this event. The Senior and junior Kapa haka group performed and so did the Pasifica group. We got sausage sizzles and we got 2 for each person. I was in the Pasifica group so I performed in front of everyone. I enjoyed the whole day because it was full of excitement and was really tiring. In the Pasifica group we did a cook island dance for our dance with our school uniform on.

The junior kapa haka/Boys did the haka while the girls danced with the traditional skirt and tattoo/fake. The seniors did something similar, the boys did the haka but the girls used the poi and danced with the traditional skirt and tattoo/fake. The songs that were sang was E nga iwi e,Rona and the Moon,Tenei Matoe,Matariki Macarena,Lean on me and heaps more. We would like to thank Mrs Whaia Odie and her husband for bringing in the sausage sizzle and organizing all of this. Also Thank you to Mr Johnston for helping with this event.This again was to celebrate Matariki and the six sisters.

Matariki

L.I to understand what Matariki is about. This week for Maori we had a Matariki Celebration. I worked with Magenta,Fui,Joel and Sandra. We made D.L.O's about Matariki and how we collaborated with LS2. We made a Slide presentation and a Google drawing. The Google Draw was for the Poster and the Slide presentation was for what Matariki is about. We made eleven Slides for the Slide presentation. We did some research on What Matariki is about. We found out the Matariki was about the 7 sisters. I wrote down facts about the Matariki stars and what they mean. During our process through creating our presentation we all worked collaboratively and as a group we had lots of fun. As our guide we used our researching Skills and we also watched videos that helped get a more understanding meaning to our Presentation. I think as a class LS1 and LS2 really bought the Matariki spirit to the game.

A Matariki Story,Matariki and Matariki Waiata.

This week for maori we had to watch some videos about matariki. Did you once every year seven stars come out and they have names the names are Waiti,Waita,Waipunarangi,Tupuanuku,Tupuarangi,Ururangi and Matariki. Their are six kids and one mother, the mother is Matariki and the rest are the kids. Maoris new year is on June 15th. Sometimes on June 15th people have a feast and people will have food and they would sing a few songs. We might have a feast because that's what our Maori teacher faiodie said. We might be singing the matariki macarena,Ao ke ti a rangi and one other song.
