DARE Program

For the past few weeks LS2 has been doing the DARE program. The DARE program has been used at our school for many years. It is used to teach young kids how to cross the road and older kids about life choices and how to avoid drugs. We learnt that some drugs can be good for us (Prescribed by doctors). For example Asthma Inhalers, those are good for asthmatics as it is a medical need for people who run out of breath. We created a DLO that explains what we did, what the DARE program is, and answers to some questions. For this DLO I have worked with Ellenora to get it completed. We enjoyed this as we were able to learn about the right and wrong of drugs.

Drink Driving Message

This week Thursday LS2 got a visit from Constable Cyrus. Constable Cyrus came in to talk to us about Alcohol & Smoking. We talked about what alcohol can do to us, what happens to our body and what alcohol can cause us to do in the future. We were shown disturbing photos of body parts that can be harmed by drinking alcohol or smoking. We were also shown a man who drank and became someone who needed money from strangers. Then we moved onto smoking. We were shown photos of someone when they started using a drug, and 10 years later using the drug made her look unpleasant. We were also told that smoking sometimes help your pain go away. On the slides that were shown their were facts about what happens to people when they smoke. We saw a photo of a lung that was an example of what it looks like when someone smokes. There was also another photo of the lung but someone putting Tar on it. So it meant that when someone smokes to much their lungs aren't as flexible. We had a great time learning about Alcohol and Smoking with Constable Cyrus.
